How to Wire a Premium Metal Hardwired Keypad to a USAutomatic Gate Opener
Overview
In this article you will learn how to wire a Premium Metal Hardwired Keypad to any USAutomatic gate opener. There are two relays in the keypad that can be connected to the board in a variety of ways to achieve different functions. This article will go over the most common use case on a gate opener where the first relay can command the gate to open or close and the second relay can lock the gate open. The wiring is not provided with the keypad. You can use either 4 wires ran between the keypad and opener with some jumper wires inside the keypad, or 6 wires ran between the keypad and opener.

What You Need
- 4 or 6 conductor Wire for connecting the keypad to the gate opener's control board (not provided)
- Wire cutters/strippers to make jumper wires if only using 4 wires

Using wiring with at least 4 different colors will make it easier to wire them to the correct terminals on each end.
Procedure
Wiring with a 6 Conductor Cable
This portion will go over wiring each terminal with individual wires for each connection between the keypad and control board. Images will be provided as an example in each step. Your wire colors do not need to match the images.
- Insert a wire into each of the following terminals:
- Positive + (#1)
- Negative - (#2)
- R1 NO (#5)
- R1 Com (#6)
- R2 NO (#8)
- R2 Com (#9)
- Insert each wire into the control board's J2 terminal according to the table below:

Wiring with a 4 Conductor Cable
This portion will go over wiring each terminal with the minimum amount of wires
between the keypad and control board. Jumper wires are used in the back of the keypad to join every ground and common connection into one wire going to the board. Images will be provided as an
example in each step. Your wire colors do not need to match the images.
- Insert a wire into each of the following terminals:
- Positive + (#1)
- Negative - (#2)
- R1 NO (#5)
- R2 NO (#8)
Insert a small jumper wire between each terminal pair:
Negative - (#2) to R1 Com (#6)
R1 Com (#6) to R2 Com (#9)
Insert each wire into the control board's J2 terminal according to the table below:
