Two USAutomatic Patriot Control boards can be wired together so that when one gate is open, the other gate is forced to remain closed. This is done with a few wires between the J2 terminal and the Security Shunt terminal block on each board. In this article you will learn how to make these connections.
The Security Shunt contacts on each board close as soon as
that board’s operator receives a command, and they stay closed until the gate
returns to the closed limit. Each board’s Security Shunt is wired to the other
board’s Close input, so while one gate is open or moving, the other board sees
a constant close command. Because the wiring is the same in both directions,
either gate can lock out the other.
The J2 terminal is the row of green terminals along the bottom of the board. The pins are numbered 1–12 from left to right. The Security Shunt is the blue 3-terminal block in the lower right corner of the board, labeled N/C, C and N/O from left to right.
This procedure uses the following J2 pins:
J2 Pin | Board Label |
5 | Close Input N/O |
7 | Common Ground |

terminal and the Security Shunt terminal block on a Patriot Control board.
On each board, enable the DS2 switch labeled Gate in Motion. The Security Shunt will not activate without it.
Label the boards Board 1 and Board 2. The following connections need to be made:
Wire | From | To | Type |
1 | Board 1 J2 pin 7 | Board 2 J2 pin 7 | Board to board |
2 | Board 1 J2 pin 5 | Board 2 Security Shunt N/O | Board to board |
3 | Board 2 J2 pin 5 | Board 1 Security Shunt N/O | Board to board |
4 | Board 1 J2 pin 7 | Board 1 Security Shunt C | Jumper on board |
5 | Board 2 J2 pin 7 | Board 2 Security Shunt C | Jumper on board |
