How to Install a Second Battery in a Premium Metal Wireless Keypad
Overview
In this article you will learn how to add a second battery in a premium wireless keypad. The keypad uses CR123A batteries. The typical lifespan of a single battery is 24 months. Adding a second battery will extend the lifespan of the batteries to around 48 months.

What You Need
- Key to remove the keypad from housing (CH751)
- Small Phillip's head screw driver
- Small flat-head screw driver
- CR123A battery
Procedure
Remove and Open the Keypad
- Unlock the keypad.
- Lift the keypad up and away to remove it.
- Loosen the 4 Phillip's head screws and remove the internal back plate.
Remove the Optional Battery Knock-Out
- Remove the currently installed battery.
- Locate the part of the circuit board labeled "Optional battery CR123A".
- Use the flat-head screwdriver to remove this knock-out and the small tabs attaching the knock-out to the rest of the board.

If the small tabs aren't removed the battery is liable to fall out of place.
Install Both Batteries
Insert both batteries into the two battery terminals.
Close and Remount the Keypad
- Set the internal backplate into place and secure it using the 4 Phillip's head screws.
- Set the keypad back into the housing.
- Lock the keypad into place.
